Handcart

I didn't want the toolvan frame to just be scrapped so decided to build something from the framework. Not having any engineering experience and only just having been taught how to weld, I was unsure what I could do, but knew I wanted to do something. I decided to try and build a handcart.

I cut the end off the original frame.

A few crossmembers later and having welded the bearing slides in place, it is starting to take shape. Unable to find or make a suitable crank, the only way I could think to drive an axle was to chain drive it. I had to cut a cog in half and then weld it onto an axle. Suprisingly I welded it perfectly first time!! (top right of photo)

With the wheels fitted it was time for a test drive. I am glad I fitted spring suspension..

Next came the drive bar and upper framework.

A drop of oil and greased bearing slides. A quick lick of paint and away we go. Everything is a discarded offcut or secondhand except 12 nuts & bolts and 4 crossmembers.
